Journey: A Beginner’s guide to AASTU’s Departments

Hey, Compadres. I am attending my studies at AASTU and I as we all know Freshman come to universities every year. AASTU has 3 colleges of study, but only two of them offer study in BSc. This two colleges are College of Engineering and College of Natural and Applied Sciences. The first four categories I listed are encompass the 9 departments that are in College of Engineering and the last two are the 4 departments from College of Natural and Applied sciences. Totally consisting of 13 departments. Let’s go and see them.

Structure Assemblers…. Assemble!!!

This group is for people who are into the art and science of designing buildings and public works that are not only visually pleasing but also environmentally sustainable. Consists 3 departments:

1. Architecture : Focuses on designing functional and aesthetically pleasing buildings and spaces.
2. Civil Engineering : Involves the planning, design, and construction of infrastructure projects like roads and bridges.
3. Environmental Engineering : Aims to develop solutions for environmental challenges and promote sustainability.

The departments in this group are are at the forefront of technological advancement, bridging the gap between physical principles and practical applications. This group focuses on the development of new materials, processes, and systems that drive industries . This group has 3 departments too:

1. Chemical Engineering : Centers on the processes involved in transforming raw materials into valuable products.
2. Electromechanical Engineering : Merges electrical and mechanical systems to design and optimize complex machinery.
3. Mechanical Engineering : Deals with the design, analysis, and manufacturing of mechanical systems and devices.

The masterminds behind our interconnected world, designing the systems and software that power modern technology. This group is dedicated to creating innovative solutions that enhance communication, efficiency, and user experience…etc. The 2 departments in this group are:

1. Electrical and Computer Engineering : Focuses on the development of electrical systems and computer technologies.
2. Software Engineering : Involves the systematic design, development, and maintenance of software applications.

This group focuses on the extraction and management of Earth’s resources, ensuring that we fulfill our needs while minimizing environmental impact. This Group is not that big and only has one ( 1 ) department. Don’t take it the wrong way, it just means that it is a special one.

1. Mining : Specializes in the extraction and processing of natural resources from the Earth.

The fore frontiers of enhancing the quality of life by focusing on researching and developing innovative solutions that improve health, nutrition, and overall well-being. And departments are:

1. Biotechnology : Utilizes biological systems and organisms to develop innovative products and technologies.
2. Food Science and Applied Nutrition: Studies the properties of food and its effects on health and well-being.

This dynamic group focuses on understanding the Earth’s processes and materials, from extracting valuable minerals to developing new chemical processes that enhance product quality and environmental safety. The departments(elements) in this group are:

1. Geology : The first element(JK), examines the Earth's materials, processes, and history to understand its structure and resources.
2. Industrial Chemistry : Focuses on the chemical processes and manufacturing techniques used in industry.

Pro tip(as always): If you wanna get into Architecture or Software Engineering, there is an entrance exam and the competition is fierce. So, you have to really work hard and get good grades.

Last Words

As we see above, there are a whole lot of departments and a lotta things that could be done. Don’t get overwhelmed by the choices and don’t get confused by what you want to do.
